One Participant's testimony after returning from Austria:
Austria was great! What a hard working team they had this session -- amazing people! I was also privileged to have my sister from Vancouver, Canada, join me on the Short Term Worker team. :)
Let me share a quick story: One of the students came up to me on the last day and said that prior to this class she had felt little of God's love in her heart but God did something very amazing during her time at Haus Edelweiss. During this session God touched her heart through being served by all the workers. She felt God's love fill her heart as she allowed herself to be served by us!
We may think we are doing mundane and insignificant tasks of service by cleaning toilets, doing laundry, chopping vegetables, setting tables and hosting meals but God uses these little things to speak to the students and to show His love to them!
Hope you can get to Haus Edelweiss on a team soon!
What volunteers do:
TCM is a graduate level training school for Eastern European Pastors. They bring in volunteers during class sessions who take care of all the meal preparation and serving, grounds keeping, housekeeping, and maintenance while the students are in class. Jobs vary from house-and-grounds projects (mowing lawns, etc.) to food preparation and serving, setting tables, dusting, sweeping, changing bed linens, doing laundry, etc.
As a short-term worker, you, alongside our full-time and long-term staff, serve the Eastern European Christians who come to study with TCM. Expect to work hard 12 hours each day. You will rise up early and go to bed tired. There are also many stairs to climb in the course of a day's work, so the worker must have good physical strength and stamina. TCM will screen each applicant medically and determine if you will be successful and be able to complete the duties required.
Short-term workers must be at least 18 years of age and those under the age of 21 will need to provide a letter of reference and it is required that they be accompanied by a responsible adult. CCV also requires you pass a background check and volunteer screening.
Food and Lodging
TCM provides lodging and meals during your stay. Costs for dining out and traveling for pleasure are to be paid by the worker.
You will be staying in a clean, comfortable room similar to college dormitory housing. You will be assigned a room as soon as you arrive. Each room has indoor plumbing, hot water, etc., and is very comfortable. Each married couple is assigned to their own room. If you are traveling alone, you may be assigned a roommate
The Haus is physically isolated in a small valley near Vienna. It is not close to shopping areas or other tourist attractions. The area is rural. So, in the evenings after the dinner cleanup, there is opportunity for prayer, personal Bible study, reading, walks on the trails in the Vienna Woods, board games, outdoor games (e.g., ping pong, basketball, volleyball), and swimming.
All travel arrangement will be made through CCV.
A Valid passport is required for all participants. Passport cannot expire within 6 months of the trip's return date and cannot be damaged in any way. Please visit travel.state.gov for up to date information and to apply or renew. The state department is expecting a high volume of passport applications and renewals in 2017, so please apply early and allow yourself 2-3 months before the trip to get your passport in.
There are no shot requirements, but an updated Tetanus shot is Strongly Recommended for ALL trips.
